Mr. Gilbertson started his career in education in 1996 as an elementary teacher with the Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska. at Brownell and Ruth Hill elementary schools. In 2001, he became an elementary school principal with the Grand Island Public Schools in Grand Island Nebraska. He led (3) separate elementary schools before becoming a middle school principal, and then Director of Secondary Education. In 2012, he accepted the rewarding challenge to serve as the Executive High School Principal at Grand Island Senior High. He retired from the Grand Island Public Schools in 2024, and will join the Nebraska Department of Education, as a Leadership Specialist, in August of 2024. Mr. Gilbertson enjoys spending time with his loving family, wife Mindy, daughter Hannah, and son Jack, while also finding intentional time to enjoy the outdoors fishing and kayaking.
